Confidentiality & Privacy:

The relationship between the counsellor and the client is confidential and all records are kept secure and private. No information will be disclosed to any other person, unless the client’s consent has been obtained. There are very few circumstances in which confidentiality may be breached, it is usual for this to be resolved within counselling, and breaking confidentiality is generally a last resort. This will be discussed more fully in your first counselling session.

As a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), this counsellor abides by their code of ethics.

If during the course of counselling sessions a client is unhappy with any aspect of the service, it would be appreciated in the first instance, if this could be discussed with the counsellor. If this does not resolve the issue, there are a number of official agencies that a client can refer to, e.g. NZAC, Health and Disability Commissioner, Human Rights Commission, Privacy Commissioner, etc.
