About Me...

As a Counsellor

Hi, I'm Maxine Brayshaw, a genuine, honest and easy going person with a good sense of humour (that I'll use in my work if appropriate!). My counselling style is therefore down to earth and friendly. My hope is that you will feel at ease with me and we can build a relationship of trust, where you can open up and be really heard.

I recognise that sometimes it is pretty scary and nerve-racking to start counselling, if it helps I often feel a bit nervous the first time I meet a new client. I admire your courage in taking this step towards finding a different future for yourself.

My Professional Qualifications and Membership:

  • Bachelor of Counselling
  • Diploma in Stress Management
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Professional supervision
  • Member NZ Association of Counsellors (MNZAC)

Personally

I'm quite adventurous, enjoy change, like variety and trying new things. I came to New Zealand from England over 20 years ago to have a change and a new challenge...I haven't looked back! In fact I was having such a great time here that my twin sister followed me a few years later - she lives in Tauranga, and being a small town, we often get mistaken for each other!

Since being here I married an amazing 'Kiwi' man and have shared many adventures with him exploring New Zealand. My career has changed from travel and management, to massage therapist, to counsellor. I have worked in corporate, health care and not for profit organisations, and latterly self employed.

I moved to Tauranga a few years ago and have really settled here. One thing that really brings me great pleasure is going for walks with my dogs and my husband around the beautiful Bay of Plenty and investigating new places.

In my quest to try out new things cooking and eating out has featured strongly! I've also been known to enjoy yoga, reading, rugby, and sailing.
